All I could think of was the Millerites and their “Great Disappointment” from their failed end-of-the-world prediction to occur in 1844. Like many did today, the followers of William Miller sold off their land and property and sat around on the evening of October 22nd and watched the sunset expecting to see the second coming of Christ.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millerism

I told many of my friends this last May 21st, “well, it’s been nice knowing ya! But I am about to get raputured.” Unfortunately, the “Rapture Bus” passed me by this time too. It stopped and honked, but I just waved and it drove on I guess. Rather than make any further comments on this nonsense, I have found many blog quotes that were especially funny and have posted a few here:
