Kate got a new job.

As some of you know, I have been working with a contract company to find employment in San Antonio. Initially I was working on a contract with an IT Hosting as a Technical Writer in their Special Operations department (project implementation). The contract was set to expire on April 1. I was the only person on the team of 30 who was ahead of schedule. Everyone else was running 2-3 months behind schedule. So when they extended the project deadline from April 1 to July 15, this left me in a predicament where I had worked myself out of work. I had already completed my contract objectives 3 weeks ahead of the April 1 deadline before they extended the project. Because of this my contract was ended and I needed to find another position. They looked for a position for me, but among 4 departments they did not have a continuing need for my services.

I interviewed with Pearson Publishing, the parent company of Addison-Wesley, Prentice Hall, and Harcourt testing on Friday last week. They liked me and another candidate and brought us both in for interviews and skills tests on Monday. I got the call today that I will begin work as a Business Analyst on Wednesday April 9 with Pearson. I asked the contract company what they said about me in case there were any skills I needed to brush up on, and they replied, “They only said that they loved you, nothing else.”

For those who don’t know, a Business Analyst works with end users to create business requirements for software, creates software interfaces, provides technical documentation, performs quality assurance testing on software, then trains the end users and collects feedback.

This is a great opportunity for me to move up in the food chain of the software engineering industry. I am very excited. They have already told me their intentions are to hire me on full time after my 6 month contract is completed.

(Does happy dance)

I received a call from Halli at the IT Hosting company who said I had to remove my post because I was in violation of the confidentiality agreement. So I have removed the IT Hosting company’s name from my post to “not make them look bad”.

    Halli, kiss my ass.
