Want opinions.

Mark had an idea yesterday that really caught my attention.

We don’t own a lawnmower. A new lawnmower costs about $2k. We’ve been through 4 used lawnmowers and they keep dying. The last one the engine blew up, literally–Mark is lucky he didn’t get killed.

So he asks, “Why don’t we get a goat?”
Me: “What?!”
Mark: “Think about it, we’d never have to mow the yard and we’d never have to feed the goat. The yard is already full of dog poop and the dogs would love it.”
Me: “How much do you think a goat would cost? The neighbors already have a goat, so it’s not like it’s a noise issue.”

So, the question now is, can anyone give us good reasons for or against getting a goat?

I thought Sandy was the one that wanted a pet goat :)

Once when we went to Iowa we pulled into your Aunt’s drive and found their goat standing on the very top of their car with its sharp little hooves carving up the paint. I told your aunt that if the goat climbs on my car, we will be having goat-kabobs for dinner. Goats are destructive, how is that for a good reason? However, I hear goat-kabobs are quite tasty.

I think that’s what a fence is for.

I mentioned the goat idea to grandma - she said you can’t control what they eat or where. They may eat the grass, but it will be in patches. They’ll also eat everything you don’t want them to. Appearantly, they also crap. A lot. Much more than your dogs.

Still, I think a pet goat would be cool. So long as it’s yours and not destroying my yard :)

Actually, I have an idea. Instead of getting a couple of goats, consider getting a couple of donkeys. They are small, they will completely eat the grass, are much less destructive than goats and you can use them to haul stuff. A much better choice in my opinion.

Well, Mark bought another used lawnmower. This one was $300. It’s an 89 Snapper, 16 hp, 48 inch cut path. This sucker is a beast. The seat is bright pink from the sun-wash. We’re going to paint it silver with pink flames to match the seat. :)
